Americans in Israel

It's no secret that America and Israel have a special relationship. In honor of the 4th of July, we want to give a special shoutout to American Olim in Israel!

An Israeli passport held over an Israeli flag

Israel and America...it's like peanut butter and jelly (American reference) since the only place in Israel you would find these flavors is in Bamba. Americans come to Israel and find many things they love -- the new flavors, the gorgeous views, friendly people, and refreshing culture.

In 2018, more than 3000 Olim made Aliyah from the United States. Now, due to the Coronavirus, there has been a SURGE in Aliyah requests from America. More than ever, Israel and America will be melding together.

Of course, making Aliyah to Israel, while an amazing feat, leaves Americans missing some aspects of their home country. Everything has trade-offs, right? So what are some of the things Americans wish Israel had while they're preparing for the fourth of July?

Big department stores

Shopping for the Fourth of July, or any holiday is of course easiest when you have a one-stop-shop. The place you can get food, decorations, a grill, festive clothing. Superstores in America are one luxury for sure missed in Israel. BUT, there are some similar options. Stores such as Rami Levy, Osher Ad, and Chatzi Chinam sell more than just food and are a great option for preparing for a holiday.

Then, there is always the Shuk! The experience is different than that of a department store, but most would argue it's a lot more fun and interesting -- with the opportunity to barter for the price of goods!

Americana Style Food

For those craving savory, delicious, American-style food, check out Teimim is the biggest store in Israel selling food products from outside of Israel! Think chocolates, snacks, sweets, cakes, drinks, sauces, and spreads. All of the famous brands we all know and love are waiting for you right here in Israel (with really fast delivery!) The taste of home to Israel, and it's a great way to get Fourth-of-July favorites made fresh.

The Waterside

It's best to enjoy the fourth of July in America at the abundant lakesides, oceans, and rivers in America. What options do we have in Israel? Aside from the beautiful Mediterranean, there are lots of gorgeous springs in Israel to visit! If you're looking for great waterside locations to picnic and barbecue you should maybe check out one of these cool spots: #Ein_Dvir #Ein_Lavan #Ein_Yidida

Do people celebrate the Fourth in Israel?

In America, there are barbecues, fireworks, and a day filled with lots of joy. In Israel, this tends to be the case as well, on a smaller scale. The U.S. embassy usually has an event to honor the 4th, but this year because of the Corona, it probably won't happen. Hopefully, everyone can still find a way to celebrate.

It seems what Americans in Israel miss most of all are the people we love who still live in America. On this Independence Day, let's celebrate where we are, with what we have! Deal?
