#Pakal_Kafe: Harel Brigade Monument

Here's an interesting fact about Israelis - They like to take a #Pakal_Kafe with them on hikes in nature, or when they visit their nearby ma'ayan (spring). (or sometimes use them at home!)

Why do you ask? Well, simply because there is nothing more Israeli than enjoying the outdoors with a nice steaming glass of fresh coffee (*Don't worry, there is always emergency tea for the non-coffee drinkers).

>>> So we @iKonnect decided to hop on this trend!

The story

Adar Hill is situated right outside of Jerusalem, surrounded by gorgeous forest trees. The hill's peak reaches 880 meters above sea level, and on the peak, you will find the Har Adar community.

This monument is in memory of all the victims of the Harel Brigade, that fought in this area during the War of Independence (1949) and participated in other battles throughout the Israeli wars.

What to expect?

You can't miss the 16-meter-high observation tower, shaped like a concrete gate, facing Jerusalem. To get to the top, you will need to climb fifty-eight steps, there you will find an observation deck with a 360° view of the Dan area and Jerusalem.

As part of the memorial site, a number of trenches and bunkers were restored, and old tanks and vehicles are scattered around for kids to climb on.

  • As of July 14, 2020, there is a gate that will prevent you from going up to the observation deck.

  • It can get cold at night, even during the summer (part of the Jerusalem magic), so make sure to bring a sweater or warm clothes.

  • To get to this point, you need to go through the Har Adar's gate.
